Last year, RAM partnered with the NHL Red Wings to sponsor the team and create the successful RAM 1500. Now, the brand is thinking about taking a step farther by partnering with additional teams and franchises.
RAM ended up selling an impressive 3,000 units of the special edition RAM 1500. The truck brand has also announced that it will again partner with the Red Wings throughout the 2012-2013 season, though a 2013 RAM model will not be offered due to the abbreviated NHL season. The success of the first season's truck, however, certainly showed that these types of partnerships can work. As RAM head Fred Diaz boats, the partnership "worked out so incredibly well, we're looking at the possibility of doing other things with other sports."1
While Diaz notes that he doesn't see the truck brand partnering with entire leagues, but he does think that other teams and cities with huge fan bases could work in the future. He states, "We'll pick our spots and our moments. And if we feel like we have a good opportunity, we'll do it."2
Along with the special edition truck, RAM's partnership with the Detroit Red Wings also included a RAM Truck Mural, RAM-themed displays on the outside of the Red Wings' stadium, and quite a few in-game promotions.
